Course Overview

An introduction to the construction of an endoscope and how to visually inspect for abnormalities and potential repairs. Updated policies and procedures for reprocessing. A description of medical devices and procedures.

Purpose Statement

This formal educational activity has been developed in response to managers, nurses, and technicians who have expressed a need to update their clinical knowledge while maintaining quality patient care. Attendees will be presented with current information that will support GI unit operations and infection control.

Learning Objective

  • Review endoscope imaging technology and construction.
  • Visually Inspect the components of an endoscope for proper functioning.
  • Explain how the endoscope is used for GI patient procedures.
  • Describe the medical devices that are utilized during GI patient procedures.
  • Define the requirements for GI specimen processing.

Highlight numerous endoscope feature, including: Narrow Band Image, ERCP, High Definition, EUS

10:10am - 11:10pm Endoscope Reprocessing: Policies and Procedures Focus on updated policies and procedures for reprocessing endoscopes, leak testing, industry standards, and OEM instructions
11:10am - 12:10pm Hands-on stations Two- 30 minute rotations
12:10pm-1:10pm Lunch Break .
1:10pm- 2:20pm Medical Devices for GI Procedures Learn basic troubleshooting for scopes and selected medical procedures, inculding stenting, endoscopic clips and loop digating devices
2:20pm-2:30pm Break .
2:30pm-3:15pm Foreign Body Retreival Discussion of esophageal food bolus impaction and foreign body ingestion. identification of tools necessary for removal of esophageal foreign bodies.
3:15pm- 4:15pm Hands-on Stations Three- 20 minute rotations
4:15pm-4:30pm Evaluations Adjournment

Registered participants for Olympus University courses must provide us with their cancellation notice five business days prior to the program date. “No-Show” registrations will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee for their catering/meeting expenses.
