Course Overview

Today’s healthcare environment challenges organizations to balance cost containment with quality care. In order to survive and thrive in this atmosphere, endoscopy nurses and clinicians must combine clinical expertise with business skills.

This educational course is designed for those who want to more effectively manage their resources and presents an overview of topics affecting the GI nurse. Sessions provide informational updates for a wide array of clinical topics.

Purpose Statement

This formal educational activity has been developed in response to managers, nurses, and technicians who have expressed a need to update their clinical knowledge while maintaining quality patient care. Attendees will be presented with current information that will support GI unit operations and infection control.

8:45am - 9:30am Foreign Body Retrieval Discussion of esophageal food bolus impaction of tools necessary for removal of esophageal foreign bodies.
9:30am - 10:30am Healthcare Update and New GI Technologies Current procedures, new procedures, all incorporating innovative technologies. This presentation will highlight numerous topics including: Narrow Band Imaging, High Definition, EUS, ERCP, LESS and Capsule Endoscopy
10:30am-10:45am Break .
10:45am- 12:00pm Capsule Endoscopy Update A review of capsule technology and how it is utilized to observe the small bowel
12:00pm-1:00pm Lunch Break .
1:00pm-2:00pm Overview of GI Pathogens Clincal review of new and emerging GI tract pathogens with emphasis on those of interest to endoscopy nurses and GI technicians.
2:00pm-3:00pm Endoscope Reprocessing: Policies and Procedures Focus on updated policies and procedures for reprocessing endoscopes, leak testing, industry standards, and OEM instructions
3:00pm-3:15pm Break .
3:15pm- 4:00pm Panel Discussion Group discussion related to best practices
4:00pm-4:30pm Evaluations Adjournment

Cancellation Policy

Registered participants for Olympus University courses must provide us with their cancellation notice five business days prior to the program date. “No-Show” registrations will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee for their catering/meeting expenses.
